Coming soon “Opening the Black Box of HEC-RAS”

From Field to Model: A 5-Day Hands-On Water Resources Workshop

Bridge the gap between field reality and hydraulic modeling in this intensive, practical workshop designed for water resources professionals involved in projects that utilize HEC-RAS modeling. This unique course connects hydrologic analysis, hydraulic theory, and real-world data collection with digital modeling through hands-on experience.

What You'll Experience: Begin with essential hydrology and hydraulic principles, then get your boots wet collecting actual hydrographic data in the field using industry-standard techniques. Upon returning to the classroom, you'll build HEC-RAS models using the data you collected, creating a direct connection between field measurements and model inputs.

Course Structure:

  • Days 1-1.5: Hydrology and hydraulic fundamentals plus field data collection methods
  • Days 2-3: Field work collecting stream cross-sections, flow measurements, and site reconnaissance
  • Days 4-5: HEC-RAS model development and analysis using your field data

Perfect For: Engineers, hydrologists, environmental professionals, and anyone who works with hydraulic models but wants to better understand the real-world basis behind the numbers. No advanced modeling experience required.

Take Away: A practical understanding of how field conditions translate into model parameters, what HEC-RAS results actually represent, and the confidence to interpret hydraulic modeling with real-world context.
